Sistas on Fire was formerly called Diary of a Mad Black Feminist (DMBF). The show was an audience interactive collaborative performance featuring poetry and prose, opened on February 17, 2006, for the African American Museum of Nassau County’s Black History Month program. The last performance was on Saturday matinée on April 22 at 2pm for Poetry Month.
A 2006 and 2007 winner of a Long Island Council for the Arts grant, DMF had the highest attendance for theatrical performances held in recent years at the Museum.
The name was changed in 2009 because DMBF was thought to be too controversial. What do you think? Which name do you think is better and why?
